You’ll recognise them as the colourful stickers placed in your passport by an embassy, or a PDF print-out showing that you’ve been approved. They're the official authorisation for entrance into, and travel within, a country or region.

‘ETA’ stands for ‘Electronic Travel Authority’. Even if you are exempt from visa requirements, you may still need one of these to enter your destination. Commonly required ETAs include the US’s ESTA and New Zealand’s NZETA.

Exactly what they sound like! A letter which formally invites you into the country. They're a rare requirement for tourists these days, but if you're a business traveller, or visiting family overseas, you might come across them. In either case, if an embassy wants you to hold one, there's no getting around it!

These are usually issued by government departments or written up by private companies and family members based in the country you're travelling to.

Unless your nationality is exempt from visa requirements, you really do need one!

If you try to board a flight without one, you'll often be turned away at check-in, and if you find yourself attempting to cross a land border without that necessary bit of paper you'll likely find the door shut in your face - possibly literally.

Like the cost, this will depend on the visa you’ve applied for. As a rough guide, many tourist & business visas are issued within 2 – 3 weeks, but we always suggest getting started well in advance.

You’re welcome to get in touch as soon as you want! Many visas can only be applied for within three months of your arrival date.

We certainly can! Visa requirements for holders of these travel documents are often quite different from regular passport holders, and visa processing times can be much longer. Just get in touch and we’ll talk you through what you need.

You’ll usually need at least 1 – 2 blank pages in your passport if you need a visa sticker.

If you're getting an eVisa or are entering a country under a short-term visa-exemption, you'll need some space for the border officers to put your entry and exit stamps.

In most cases you'll need to have at least 6 months of validity left on your passport beyond the end of your trip. If your passport is due to expire within 6 months, we recommend you renew it before applying for any visas.
